STEEN, Mary Stella Beltrone, 88, of Tampa, passed on July 27, 2012, with family at her bedside. Born August 31, 1923, in Stignano, Calabria, Italy, her family moved to Schenectady, New York when she was two years old. At Mont Pleasant High School Mary received scholarly Honors and exhibited her passion for music in the choir. On St. Patrick's Day 1945, she met Claud "David" Steen. They were married 46 days later on May 2nd. Besides raising a family, she managed to operate Steen Construction Co. with her husband for many years. She also was very active in school functions for her children, and participated inseveral organizations such as the Elks Club, Schenectady Homebuilders Association, and the PTA. Despite all of her civic and professional activities, she happily hosted many social events for family and friends. Cooking became her trademark, including the best meatballs on the planet. After moving to Tampa in 1977, she enjoyed the Florida "lifestyle" but also worked at her son's law office for several years. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Bensiero and Angelina; her brothers, Salvatore, Tony and Pete; and her sisters, Kitty and Vinnie. She is survived by her husband, Claud (David); her children, Linda L. Steen, David W. Steen, and Dee Dee Cheviron; grandchildren, Anthony, Stephanie, Brian, Pamela and David; and great-grandchildren, Trenton, Alex and Kaidyn; along with several loving nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will take place Thursday evening, August 2, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 pm at JGR Funeral Home, 6718 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa. Catholic Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 3, at 10 o'clock at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
