HAYWOOD, Mavis M., CPS, Mrs. Haywood, 88, died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at John Knox Village in Tampa, FL after being in declining health for several months. Born in 1925 in Danville, VA to Leonard and Lucy Haywood, Mavis grew up in Danville and graduated from George Washington High School in 1944. She then began a medical career that spanned 68 years. She moved to Tampa, FL in 1978 and was a secretary in the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida, where she met James C. Christensen, M.D., for whom she served as office manager until her retirement in 2012. Closest survivors include nieces and nephews and their families: Sandra Webb and husband Jack, Millersville, MD, Ann Flood and husband Richard, Vallejo, CA, C. David Perry and wife Heidi, Carrboro, NC, and Richard Perry and wife Debbie, Knoxville, as well as the family of Sylvia Robinson (deceased) and husband Rick, Tallahassee, FL. She had a long, happy and rewarding life and is grateful to everyone who contributed to it.
