HARDY, Dr. Miles, 86 of Tampa, Fla., passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia K. Hardy of 40 years. Dr. Hardy was born in Fort Fairfield Maine and bravely served his country during WWII as a United States Merchant Marine. After the war, he attended Ball State University. He later received his PhD in clinical psychology from Florida State University. Dr. Hardy completed an internship in diagnosis and treatment of emotional disturbances with the Veterans Administration. He served as a staff psychologist and consultant to the MacDonald Training Center. He was a Charter faculty member at the University of South Florida and was the university's first professor of psychology. He sponsored the first research grant at the university, and throughout his 33 year tenure served as chairman of the behavior of science department working in conjunction with the PhD program. In addition he founded a private practice, Associated Psychological Services, in Temple Terrace, which served the community for 42 years. He served on the Tampa Bay Skeptics Board of Directors and Executive Council from 1988 to 2006. Dr. Hardy was a well-respected psychologist and brought immense healing to his patients. He was a self-made man - fascinated by the dynamics of human behavior. He was fair and responsible and fought superstition and ignorance. His wit, charm, intelligence and humor were some of his greatest attributes. Dr. Hardy is survived by seven children, Miles S. Hardy (Sally), Mark A. Hardy, Dana V. Hardy (Laura), Denise E. Winter (Joseph), Deborah E. Monaco (Daniel), Kimberlee E. Gerdon, James L. Erb, Jr. (Helen); nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
