BUCKNER, Dr. Robert C., of Brooksville and formerly of Clearwater, born March 25, 1932 in Knoxville, TN and passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Waynesville, NC. I've decided to write my own obituary. Why? Most obits list the clubs, organizations and notable accomplishments of the deceased, but my finest hour occurred in 1957, when I convinced Mary Celia McKethan to marry me. This was my grandest hour and she has always been a glorious wife and mother. This union, in the years that followed, gave us three perfect sons. Perfect to us at least. Our oldest son, Robert A., along with his wife, Sheila, live in Brooksville, FL and have given us two wonderful grandchildren: Bryn and Charles. Our second son, James C. lives with his wife, Muffet, in Knoxville, TN and are raising two more fine grandchildren: Clark and Brooke. William M. and his wife Jane reside in Houston, TX and they have three lovely daughters: Lily, Manon and Scarlet. We are so proud of each member of our family. I do confess to developing an affinity for chocolate in my later years. Dark chocolate. Every older man should have at least one vice, no matter how small. It keeps life interesting. I have no outstanding legacy except helping to raise our sons. But, I do have a sister, Sara O'Meara Sigholtz, who is amazing. In 1959, along with her close friend, Yvonne Fedderson, founded Childhelp, an organization that cares for abused children. It's become a nationwide organization and in 2005, they were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, and have since received our nation's Medal of Honor, plus recognition from many other organizations. Now those are achievements! So, I say goodbye with a big smile on my face. Don't bother to mourn for me because a great family and many friends have offered me a fantastic life. Celebrate with me, as I die completely content. Celia, thanks again for you. How great you are! Dr. Buckner's family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:00pm, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, in celebration of his life.
