MARDEN, Robert Edward, "Bob", Chief Petty Officer, passed away at his Brandon home January 11, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife Carol and friends in life. A decorated veteran after 7 tours of duty in Vietnam he fought his last battle in life against lung disease. Bob left this world with as much dignity and heroic courage as he occupied it with his 74 years. He exited this world with all the respect and hero honors that he and so many of his brothers deserved, but were denied, when they returned from Vietnam so many years ago. Despite your strength, courage, and determination, asbestosis and lung disease took you away. Your laughter and compassionate ways remain in our hearts and memories as we continue to search for comfort. Our hero was born October 2, 1938 to Hannah Burke and Robert Marden in Boston, Massachusetts. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. During his 20 year career he garnered many achievement awards during his service, and the National Defense Service Medal for serving during the Vietnam era. Bob continued to strive for achievement and again entered to serve his country in the civilian sector. As an Internal Revenue Agent, Department of the United States Treasury, he retired after 15 years of service with much respect and many Performance and Special Act Awards in recognition and appreciation of his superior effort, dedication and personal contribution to accomplishing the goals and mission of the Internal Revenue Service. He enjoyed his retirement years for several years before his lungs showed demise. A special thanks to Congressman Ross for his invaluable assistance, to the excellent staff, doctors, especially Dr. Jonathan Stewart, and nurses at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, the Home Based Primary Care Team and the Haley's Cove community Living Center. Bob's personal caregivers, Jessica Lyons, Judy Perez and Carmen Webb who provided loving care in the home. St. Stephen Church provided wonderful spiritual support. Bob is survived by his loving wife Carol Marden, family and friends. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church.
