RICHARDS, Robert Sidney, 81 years, born September 12, 1930 and died March 2, 2012, from a vicious, fast moving, cancer. He grew up in Palmetto Beach, Desoto Park and Tampa. He is a Mayflower descendent. His ancestor, Pricilla, married the stripling who first leaped upon Plymouth Rock and his Grandfather, Albert S. Richards, traveled by oxcart, crossed the Alafia River and settled at Fishhawk. Family left behind are his wife, Helen Chattin Richards; daughter, Katana (Mauricio) Lorenzo; sons, Jimmy (Karen), Keith (Tasha) and Danny (Donna); 13 grandchildren, Karen, Kassie, Shandi, Jedd, Chad, Dylan, Shawnee, Shannon, Paul, Stacy, Travis, Eric and Sydney and 13 great grandchildren. We are with heavy hearts today. The man who taught us our uncanny work ethics, had an immense knowledge of the sea, and gave us nothing but unconditional love, has passed away. He revolutionized the fishing industry with multiple inventions which are still in use today and guided Marine Research teams throughout our waters. He had owned the Seabreeze by the Bay Restaurant, the Seabreeze Fish Market and Bait Shop, and his fleet of Seaweed shrimp boats that became a legendary landmark for Tampa Bay. All done with a disarming grin and a wit sharp as a razor! Rest in Peace. The family will receive friends at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, from 1 PM to 2 PM Saturday, March 10, 2012, with funeral services starting at 2 pm. Interment will follow in the Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. A covered dish memorial is preferred over flowers, to be shared afterwards at the Causeway Baptist Church dining hall. Call (813) 626-5849 if additional information needed.
