CANALS, William R., 91, passed on October 12th, 2013. William (Bill) Canals graduated from Georgia Tech '46. He served in the U.S. Navy, Korean War and WWI. Retired from INA insurance after 30 years with 20 years of Naval Reserve. Since 1982 he continued to serve his community working with Tampa Crisis "Helpline" and Tampa Crossroads. He was responsible for bringing Project Angel Tree to the Tampa Bay Area. He was a member of Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship ministry for 30 years and lead many inmates to Christ through this ministry. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty, son Steve and daughters Christie Lee (John Bruce), Bonnie Castillo, son in law Armando Castillo Jr., granddaughter Kimberly Simpson, two great grandsons Bradley and Blake, step grandchildren, Cass, Michele, Ashley and step great grandchildren Adrianne and Austin. The family wishes to express their love and thankfulness to the compassionate HPH Hospice Team 44 and the entire Hospice House, Dade City, for their loving care and kindness. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrance donations be made to the Hernando Pasco Hospice House, 37445 Clinton Ave Dade City, FL. Funeral services for Bill Canals will be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL on Thursday, October 17th at 11:00 AM. Bill Canals was a devoted Christian man who was most faithful while serving at the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, teaching an Adult Sunday School Class for many years.
