KLAY, Winsome McCurdy, 85, died peacefully at home

Sunday, February 13, 2011. She was pre-deceased by her parents, the Reverend Dr. Harold and Margie McCurdy; her sisters, Eva Rutledge and Bernice Gustin; her father and mother-in-law, Joe B. and Marion Klay; her brother-in-law, James Klay; and her grandson, James Alston. Winsome was born in Oil City, Pa., and was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corp, graduating from Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was sent to Bay Pines Veterans Hospital for the last six months of her training. It was there she met and fell in love with her husband of 63 years, Bruce Klay. She was a 58-year member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church and enjoyed bridge with her friends, gardening, and the Gulf beaches. She will be remembered as a sweet and caring person with a quiet sense of humor and a willingness to help anyone who needed it. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, and her five daughters, Julie Speer (Jack), Winkie Alston (Brad), Carol Klay, Brucie Boonstoppel (Karel), and Kelly Storm (Chip). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jay and Sam Speer, Sara McTigue, Savannah Suarez, Ben and Noah Anderson, Shiloh Johnson, Elijah Klay, Nicholas, Harrison and Ava Boonstoppel, and Winsome Storm; seven great-grand-children; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne Rutledge, Pete and Jean Harman, Joe Klay and Frances Klay, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, 3723 Bay to Bay Blvd., Tampa, FL 33629.
