
GIGLIO, The Honorable Vincent E., 74, a lifelong resident of Tampa, departed this life November 20, 2008. Judge Giglio was born January 16, 1934, attended Mitchell Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School, and Plant High School before receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1954. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Stetson University College of Law in 1961 with a juris doctor degree, and enjoyed a 23-year career in law. He served as special assistant attorney general division chief in the public defender' s office, chief assistant state attorney, and a private practitioner. In February 1984, he was appointed to the bench by Gov. Bob Graham. By choice, the majority of his judicial career was spent in the juvenile division, where he served as an administrative judge until his retirement in December 1996. Judge Giglio was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity; Florida Blue Key; Hillsborough County Bar Association; Florida Bar Association; Hillsborough County Circuit Judges Conference; past president of Centro Asturiano Hospital board of directors; past child abuse council board member; and past Baron and King of the Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather; a loyal friend; and a true Florida Gator for all seasons. Amongst his peers in the legal community, he was highly respected and regarded as a mentor for his professional and meticulous, yet compassionate and considerate nature. He was thought to be a fair, just and dedicated jurist and attorney. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Patricia Wimmer Giglio; daughters, Deborah Giglio and Stephanie Musumeci; son-in-law, Salvatore Musumeci; grandsons, Michael Musumeci and Stephen Musumeci; aunt, Katie McCoy; uncle, Mario Sciortino; uncle, Vincent Giglio and aunt, Pat Giglio of Tallahassee, Fla.; cousins, Katherine Lipinski of Montgomery, Ala., and Lance Giglio of Tallahassee, FL, Linda Haley, Sharon McCoy, Joe Sciortino and other family members and friends. Pallbearers are to be Vincent Giglio, Mario Sciortino, Salvatore Musumeci, Michael Musumeci, Stephen Musumeci, Don Haley, Lance Giglio, Joe Sciortino, and Michael Hogan. Honorary pallbearers are to be Wayne Fontes, Al McCormick, Edward Gonzalez, Henry Gonzalez, Domenic Castellano, John LaBarbera, Andrew Massaro, Tom Ferraro, Simon Canasi, and Joe Trumbach. The family wishes to thank the staff at Manor Care Health Services and the LifePath Hospice Gold Team for their care and kindness. A funeral Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N. Himes Ave., with Monsignor Laurence E. Higgins, P.A., Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
