DOUGHERTY, Emily Edens, 92, passed into Heaven on January 27, 2014. Mrs. Dougherty was born to Ida Mae and Hiram P. Edens in a small log cabin in Hancock County, TN. After graduating high school at Rye Cove, Emily worked at the Tennessee Eastman Co. for several years and then attended Lincoln Memorial University and East Tennessee State University and graduated with a degree in Education and a minor in Chemistry. The remainder of her career was spent teaching in the Scott County, VA education system until she retired in 1983. Emily was a woman of deep love and great determination, battling and overcoming breast cancer, recovering from a broken hip and a minor stroke to regain her strength and independence. She was a beloved wife and mother, a fantastic cook and an inspirational teacher to many students in Scott County. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Joseph H. Dougherty. She is survived by her son, Joseph P. Dougherty(Linda) of Plant City, Fl; sister, Ann Edens of Clinchport, VA; nieces Patricia Bennett(Tom) Auburn, Al; Sandy McDavid, Church Hill, TN; nephews, Raymond Edens(Renee) Clinchport, VA and Gary Edens(Hope) Seneca, SC. Funeral services will be held at 3pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Fl. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service and will be officiated by Pastor Charles Inman. In lieu of Flowers, please consider donations to cure breast cancer.
