PALMGREN, Robert A. "Bob," born April 28, 1931, joined God' s choir May 17, 2008. (The bass section, naturally, which he would say is the only one that matters.) Bob, formerly of Homewood, Ill., taught school for more than 20 years and 17 years overseas. Bob had his master' s degree in art education from ITT Technical Institute. He left this specialty to teach all subjects at elementary level. Besides teaching, Bob had a great love of music. While at the University of Illinois, he was a member of Minawa Lodge, a Christian fraternity that spread the Christian gospel through song. In the 1970s, Bob added barbershop quartet singing to his repertoire and was an enthusiastic member of the South Cook, Ill., chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America and "The Hartsmen." Bob loved to teach and to sing, but his first love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jere; children, Rae (Ron) Ringhofer, Tris (Janet) Palmgren and Andy (Carol) Lindstrom; 10 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. A celebration of Bob' s life will take place at 3p.m. May 31 at Regency Coves, 4851 Gandy Blvd.,Tampa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Joseph' s Cancer Institute - Tampa, 3001 W. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd., or Faith Covenant Church of Saint Petersburg; 150 62nd Ave., Tampa.
