GILL, Esther Whitmore, 95, of Lake Placid, Fla., went to her Lord early Sunday morning, February 19, 2012. Esther died at Southern Lifestyle where she resided. She was a native of Kansas, born November 14, 1916 in Corbin, daughter of Ms. Bertha and Walter Whitmore. Esther graduated from Lakeland High School and entered Florida Southern College where she attained her undergraduate degree and was valedictorian of her class. Esther later received her masters degree in Library Arts from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN., which is part of the Vanderbelt University system today. She utilized her degree serving as an assistant librarian at Florida Southern and the Lakeland Municipal Public Library. On December 2, 1945, she married the late Reverend John B. Gill Jr. in Lakeland and they moved to South Florida. In 1981 they left North Miami and came to Lake Placid. Esther was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid. Her and her husband were charter members of the Spring Lake United Methodist Church before joining Memorial. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Women and Highlands Co. American Association of University Women (AAUW). Esther enjoyed reading and music and played both organ and piano. Esther is survived by her children, Esther M. Gill of Lake Placid, Sara Gill Wunderlich (Paul) of Davie, Fl., Mary Gill Isaac (Jerry) of Lakeland Fl., John B. Gill III (Terri) of Ormand Beach, Fl.; grandchildren, Tina, Kathy, Allison, Megan, Tim, Ben, Joanne, and she was blessed with great-grand-child, Alex. She was predeceased by her husband John and brother, Paul Whitmore. Funeral services will start at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, at Memorial United Methodist Church with a one hour viewing prior to service time. Pastor Fred Ball will celebrate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to; Development Dept., Florida United Methodist Children's Home, PO Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728-9988.
