It was a true pleasure to have been a part of Avery, John, Brian, and Collins's lives. I remember John as a strong and kind mentor in many ways, as were you, Carole. I was blessed to "work" with the children, play with them, and enjoy outings with the kids, and remember our relief after concerns during that Blowing Rock trip. I know what a fine husband and father he was and how difficult it is to lose someone dear to them. However, he lives on in our memory and our hearts. I send my very best to the Guyton family and to friends who are remembering his many talents.

I was blessed to "work" with the children, play with them, enjoy beach outings, and remember the Blowing Rock trip. Dear Carole, Avery, John, Brian, and Collins,
I can not express the sadness I feel for your loss. I just learned of John's passing and am reminded of one of Kahlil Gibran's quotes, "Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains." I know that John left many seeds and enriched many lives. Bob and I will remember him always in our hearts. Our sympathy and love to you and your families.

Collins, Ed and Anna:
Unlike so many others who knew your wonderful dad personally, the sense we have of him is your own warmth, generous spirits and great personalities. I think the kindness and good cheer in Anna come largely from the good example of the generations before her. We are very thankful to have known a little of him through her. Love, Beth, Patrick, Christine, Mary and Catherine Johnson

I only found out today about this new gap in my life. A good and interesting guy has shuffled off the mortal coil. He left a large progeny for a late starter. Camille and I grieve with you that he will no longer be around to give us something to think about every time we see him. Alas!

As a kid, John Guyton was one of those larger-than-life figures that made our little world on Davis Islands seem much bigger than it actually was. When I had a chance to sit and talk to him at the time of my brother's passing two years ago, his warmth and wisdom lived up to the exalted image I carried with me from those younger years. Thanks, Mr. Guyton...my thoughts go out to your family.

Please accept my deepest condolences. In the brief time I knew him he epitomized the meaning of the often-used, but not quite fulfilled term of "gentlemen"
