WENDT, Irving R. "Bob" Retired Colonel, 89, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at home in Yuma, AZ. with his wife and family at his side. He was born December 11, 1922 to parents Erwin and Robina Wendt in Toledo, Ohio. Bob was a husband, brother, father, grandfather and lifelong patriot. He served his country as an Army officer in World War II, the Korean conflict, Vietnam and the Cold War. He grew up in Detroit, served in the U.S. Army for more than 32 years and returned to Michigan after retirement to live with his family in Alpena. Later, he moved with his wife to Plant City, Fla. and then Yuma. He is survived by his wife Agnes who lives in Yuma; daughter Joan of Alpena; sons Steve, of Eugene, Ore., Tim, also of Yuma, Bob, of Glennallen, Alaska; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Robina, 1924; daughter, Julie Ann, 1970; father, Erwin S., 1981; brother, Richard; 2006; and stepmother, Edith, 2007. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 1, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church of Yuma, 2555 South Engler Avenue. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in early 2013 where he will join his and Agnes' daughter Julie Ann who died soon after birth.
