GEORGE, Robert L., Sr., 89, of Sebring, Florida, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born April 9, 1923 in Olean, New York, and came to Sebring in 1995 from Crystal Beach, Florida. He retired in 1983 as a foreman for Eastman Kodak after 25 years. He was in the United States Army, serving 4 years during World War II. Over 2 years of that service was in the South Pacific, where he earned 3 Battle Stars and also won a Bronze Arrowhead for service on the beachhead on Luzon. He also received the Philippine Liberation medal. He was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the VFW and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was also a parishoner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Avon Park, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. "Peggy" George of Sebring, Florida; daughter, Beverly A. Wells of Kissimmee, Florida; son, Robert L. George, Jr. and wife, Laurie of Chula Vista, California; Larry Allan George and partner, David Huckabee of Redington Shores, Florida; sister, Joyce Jacobs of Crystal Beach, Florida; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Dowden Funeral Home Chapel, Sebring, on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11:00 AM with Father Gerald Grogan, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 4300, Sebring. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Condolences may be expressed by visiting TBO.com.
