SMELT, Joseph Eugene, Jr., Sgt. 1st Class, U.S. Army, born in Tampa, Florida, April 18, 1924, passed away on February 11,2013. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Smelt, Jr., mother, Jessie Josephine Smelt; brother, Walter Edward Smelt; wife, Naomi Smelt; sister-in-law, Norma Gail Smelt (Jack); and step-son, Ted. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Bundy Smelt; adopted son, Joe Smelt; stepson, Cecil Honnas; his step-children, Tad (Wanda) and Sharon "Cookie" (Bruce) who loved him very much. Also his brother, Jack A. Smelt (Diane); Jack's children, Rhonda Simmons (Bob), Jack Alton Smelt, Jr., (Lynn), and Stephen J. Smelt of Los Angles. He also has many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and Chester Einstein his faithful dog of many years. He fought in New Guinea and Philippines during WWII, He also sewed in the Koran War near the front lines as the Chinese broke through. He retired for the Army after 23 years of service. After getting out of the service he settled in Tucson, Arizona, where he worked for Duval Copper mine and then Tucson Sewage Treatment Center. He also had his own auto repair shop. He married Winifred Bundy of Singing Wind Ranch & Bookshop. They lived on a one square mile ranch where he enjoyed raising calves, horses, a donkey and he loved to plow and plant fields. He enjoyed being a rancher. He will missed by his family and friends.
