SELMAN, Barbara, 81 of Tampa, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 12. She was born in Tampa in 1931 but moved to Bradenton at age 8. After graduating from Manatee High School, she married Jim Selman. They moved to Tampa in 1957 after Jim became assistant sports editor of The Tampa Tribune. Barbara was a long-time member, Sunday School teacher, and choir member at Lake Carroll Baptist Church. For many years she taught hundreds of 4-year-olds at Lake Carroll Baptist Learning Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Mary Cantrell; and sisters, Edith Garrott and Hazel Seymour. Barbara is survived by Jim, her loving husband of almost 63 years; four children, Robert Selman (Ardis) of Greenwood; Beckie Johnson (Terry) of Ocala; David Selman (Pam) of Tampa; and Tom Selman (Sherry) of Lake City; sister, Rosemary Nalls of Augusta, GA; brothers, Stan Cantrell of Palm Bay and Bill Cantrell of Sebastopol, CA; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at Lake Carroll Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at Lake Carroll Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Slater officiating. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barbara's name to either Lake Carroll Baptist Church, or Lake Carroll Baptist Learning Center. Blount and Curry in charge of arrangements.
