MANNION, Joseph Edward, 78 of Clearwater, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Mt. Carmel, PA, lived in Washington, D.C., and relocated to Florida in 1966. Joe worked for WFLA-TV for 21 years as a news reporter, anchor, news director and director of editorials. He received two Florida Emmy awards and was elected President of the National Broadcast Editorial Association. Joe later worked as a lobbyist in Tallahassee for the Pasco County Board of Commissioners and as Executive Director of the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg. Joe was an active member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, an avid golfer and member of Dunedin Golf Club and a passionate Notre Dame football and Tampa Bay Rays baseball fan. Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth; sons: Joseph of Washington, D.C., Thomas (Marjory) of Atlanta, GA, Robert of Jacksonville, FL, John (Bridget) of Safety Harbor, FL; brothers: Thomas of Catawissa, PA and James of Levittown, PA; 3 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Hubbell Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 24 from 4-7 p.m.; Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Clearwater Beach.
