WAUGHT, Thomas Gray, "Tommy", 78, died on Friday, June 14 2013 at his home in Tampa, FL following his courageous battle with cancer. He leaves his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Frances (Walker) Waugh; his daughters Julie (Terry) Wooten of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; Tammy Waugh of Tampa, FL; Deanee (Curt) Miller of Land O Lakes, FL; and six grandchildren: Whitney DeArman (Chris) Olmstead of Fairfax, VA; Lindsay Wooten of Vail, CO; Brock Wooten and Halle Wooten of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; Sarah Miller and Cameron Miller of Land O Lakes, FL. He was born in Anniston, Alabama, the son of Ora and Alonzo Waugh. He is survived by his sister Margaret Rodgers of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; brother Jerry Waugh of Atlanta, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. Tommy attended Oxford High School, Oxford Alabama. He was active in football, basketball and track and the only person from the track team to qualify and win the State Finals. Tommy attended Auburn University on a football scholarship and graduated in 1958, with a BS in Education. Upon graduation, Tommy coached football and track at Carrollton High School, in Carrollton, Georgia. In 1959, Tommy was on the coaching staff that led the football team to win a regional championship. He continued his coaching career in Ashland and Sylacauga, Alabama and relocated to Tampa in 1963. Here he joined the Chamberlain High School coaching staff as Assistant Football Coach and Head Track Coach. Tommy's love for sports and the friendships he developed during this time lasted his lifetime. In 1965 Tommy began his career in the insurance claims business working for several companies prior to opening his own business, Tampa Bay Claims. In 2009 Tommy retired from the insurance business. Tommy's smile and sense of humor were contagious to all. We will forever love and miss him. Donations can be made to Lake Magdalene United Methodist Music Fund, 2902 W. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 21st at 3:30pm at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, 2902 Fletcher Avenue, Tampa, FL.
