BURGESS, Calvin, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hospice House in Sun City Center. He was retired in 1979 from the U.S. Army as Command Sergeant Major, one of the first to receive that rank when it was created. During his 28 years of military service he saw action in Korea, with three tours of duty in Vietnam. His numerous military decorations include: Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and Legion of Merit Medal. Burgess was a 28-year resident of Sun City Center and a former club manager at Caloosa Golf & Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, an associate of Freedom Plaza and columnist for The Sun newspaper; a son, Michael Burgess of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Kelly Burgess of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for a future date.
