BYINGTON, Ruth Singleton, 73, of Valrico died of cancer on Friday, January 10, 2003 in Sun City Center. Born October 22, 1929, in Abingdon, Va., she was the daughter of Wiley and Alice Singleton. She married Claude Byington on March 31, 1950. She graduated from Wallace High School in Abingdon, Va., where she was the captain of the girls' basketball team. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in May 1951 from Knoxville General Hospital, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mrs. Byington was a dedicated nurse throughout her life, and worked as a Home Health RN for twenty years in Brandon, Florida. She lived in the Brandon areawith her family since 1965. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Brandon. Survivors include her husband, Claude Byington of Valrico; daughter, Diane Byington of Boulder, Colorado; son,David Byington of Brandon, Fla.; two grandchildren, and a great-grandson; also survived by five siblings, Louise Goodson, Paul and Jack Singleton, and Pauline Nester; all of Abingdon, Va., and Caroline Sowell of Pensacola, Fla. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Rd., Riverview. The Family will receive friends one hour prior.
