Alvin Jones Obituary

JONES, Alvin B. "Buck," 90, joined our heavenly Father August 23, 2007, in care of hospice. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anna Kay; two sons Alvin Jr. (Sharron) and Hugh (Laurie); five grand-children, Laurie Mitchell (Tom), Jeff (Debbie), Jason (Lisa), Dena and Cory; six great- grandchildren; and two sisters in Ontario. Buck was born and raised in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. He was a National Hockey League player with the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. His career was interrupted when he joined the Canadian army in World War II. Upon discharge, he resumed his hockey career, retired in 1954 and settled in Tampa. In 1987, he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Owen Sound, Ontario. He worked at Maas Brothers for 29 years and retired in 1983. Buck was an auxiliary volunteer at Tampa General Hospital for 15 years. He was a member of St. Patrick' s Catholic Church. He loved his family, friends, home, cats and working in his yard. We will miss his humble demeanor, quiet caring and his love. A funeral Mass in his honor will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4518 S. Manhattan Ave. The family wishes to thank the "Angels" at Melech Hospice House for their kindness, help and compassion. The family requests flowers be omitted. Donations may be made in his name to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele, Tampa, FL 33609. Marsicano - B. Marion Reed Stowers
