ELLA M. (NIELSEN) DODD Ella M. (Nielsen) Dodd of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Hershey Medical Center following a battle with lung cancer. Ella was the daughter of Marie and Reimar Nielsen. She was born on February 4, 1927 in Menham, NJ, and was married to John P. Dodd on February 25, 1946. They had two children, Glennon and Chantal. Ella was predeceased by her husband, John, and son, Glenn. She is survived by her daughter, Chantal, and son-in-law, Robert Atnip (both of Hershey, PA), and by grand-daughters Lindsay Atnip of Chicago IL and Elizabeth Atnip of Hershey PA, two very bright lights in her life. Ella had a remarkably full life, first as wife and mother, living in many places (France, Kansas, Wyoming, New Jersey, and many locations in Florida) while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force. She and her husband moved to Vero Beach FL in 1960, and were local business owners of Dodd's Mid- Coast Tire for many years. Her interests included community organizations (including Women's Clubs and MOAA), playing bridge, serving three years as a public member on the 19th Judicial Circuit of Florida Grievance Committee, as well as tutoring in elementary schools. She served several years as Moderator of the Community Church of Vero Beach, and was appointed to many of its boards and committees. Ella - known as Granella to her grand-daughters and other young friends - will be remembered for her wit, wonderful cooking, willingness to give a hand to anyone in need, and her ready insight into life and its complexities. Ella touched the lives of everyone she met, her family, her church friends, her bridge and scrabble friends, her Pennsylvania friends, her longtime Vero friends, her VBHS and Dolphin football rooting friends, her LifeLong Learner friends<$> and the list goes on. She will be dearly and lovingly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 pm at the Community Church of Vero Beach. A reception at the church will follow.
