Edward Alexander, 79, died May 20, 2013, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. He was born in Greenville, and lived in St. Lucie County for three years. He was a retired surveyor with the State of Florida. Ronnie "Red" Lee Andrews, 58, died May 17, 2013 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. He was born in Belle Glade and lived in Fort Pierce for six years, coming from Sarasota. Joseph Balsamini, 82, died May 20, 2013, at Treasure Coast Hospice. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and he lived in Port. St. Lucie for 24 years. Samuel T. Bassett, 94, died May 19, 2013, at VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was born in Boone County, Ky., and lived in Vero Beach for 36 years, coming from Franklin, Ohio. He was a corporal in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from General Motors after 30 years as a patternmaker. Lorene "Wee" Chavis, 84, died May 16, 2013, at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. She was born in Fort Pierce and was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce. She graduated with an associate of arts degree from Palm Beach Community College. She was employed as a register nurse with Abbiejean Russell Nursing Home in Fort Pierce. She was a member of Greater Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce. Survivors include her son, Darryl Chavis of Miami; daughters, Robin Chavis and Cynthia Chavis-Howard, both of Fort Pierce; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Chavis; sons, Kenneth Leroy Chavis and Tommy Harrison; daughter, Anita Chavis; and sister, Martha Stanley.  JOHN SPENCER DALY John Spencer Daly passed away on May 21, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was 87. Known as Spencer to friends and family, he was born in New York City on Aug. 15, 1925, and grew up in Bronxville, N.Y., and Miami Beach, Fla. He attended Iona Preparatory in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated from St. Patrick's School in Miami Beach, Fla. Shortly after, he joined the Navy Pilot Program, training at various airfields in the South. When World War II ended, he was in the first veterans' class at the University of Notre Dame and a member of its golf team. He graduated cum laude from Notre Dame in 1950 and earned his law degree cum laude at the University of Miami School of Law in 1953. He was a member of the New York State and Florida Bar Associations. After family, Spencer's greatest love was golf. He had eight hole-in-ones during his lifetime. Spencer was an avid golfer in the New York City area and held a scratch handicap in his younger years and single-digit handicap most of his adult life. He was a longtime member of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., and had the most seniority there at the time of his death. He won Winged Foot's Club Championship in 1955. Additionally, he enjoyed golf at John's Island Club and Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla., and also was a member of Vero Beach Yacht Club in Vero Beach and The Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, Conn. Spencer worked as a trademark lawyer, beginning at the Borden Co. in New York City. In 1959, he joined Monsanto Corp. in St. Louis as chief trademark attorney, followed by General Foods Corp. in White Plains, N.Y. His career then took him to Exxon Corp.'s law department in 1970 to head its global intellectual property division until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, he practiced law for two more years at the Moss, Henderson firm in Vero Beach. In 1959, he met Mary Elizabeth Kramer in Palm Beach, Fla., and they married in 1960. They had four children, whom they raised in Greenwich after Spencer joined General Foods in White Plains. They lived in Greenwich until his retirement in 1990. Upon his retirement, they moved to John's Island in Vero Beach, where he continued playing golf until his illness. They also maintained a residence in Stamford, Conn. Spencer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary, and their four children, Melissa Norrgard (Dwight) of Old Greenwich, Conn., John Spencer Jr. (Mary Detwiler) of Houston, Susan Stearns (John) of Wichita, Kan., and Allison McDermott (J.R.) of Darien, Conn., and nine grandchildren who affectionately called him "Poppy." He also is survived by two younger brothers, James C. Daly of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Thomas B. Daly of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents, John A. Daly and Mary Nevins Daly of Larchmont, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice House, 1110 35th Lane, #1, Vero Beach, FL 32960. SERVICES: Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach followed by a reception at The Golf Club at John's Island. Survivors include her daughter, Angela Davis of Orlando; stepdaughter, Nedra Thompkins of Tampa; brothers, Pam Perry Jr., Scott Perry, Gene Perry, Jerome Perry, Roney Perry, and Percy Perry, all of Vero Beach; sisters, Helen Johnson of Canada, Vivian Stinson of Vero Beach and Atlento Warner of Orlando.
