Carl Houston Sloan

Carl Houston Sloan, 83, died Dec. 2, 2012. He was born in Okeechobee and moved to Jasper in 1992. He served as a master sergeant for 14 years in the National Guard Army Reserve. Before retirement in 1992, he was a millwright, Local Union 1000, in Fort Lauderdale. He was a member of Curry Church of Christ in Jasper. He graduated from St. Lucie County High School in Fort Pierce in 1949. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jackie Holland Sloan; sons, Jack Sloan of Jasper, John Sloan of Deltona and James Sloan of Quitman, Ga.; sister, Leila Basler of Port St. Lucie; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl W. Sloan; brother, Harold Sloan; sisters, Gertrude Sloan, Lena Studstill and Leona Sloan; and grandson, Jedidiah Bethel Sloan. Services: Services will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at Curry Church of Christ in Jasper. Arrangements are by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper.
