Dr. David Louis Whitaker, 77, died Oct. 24, 2012, at his home. He was born in Athens, Ga., and lived in Toccoa, Ga., formerly of Stuart. He practiced family medicine in Kinston, N.C., and had a private practice in Stuart until he retired in 1998; he practiced medicine part-time at the Toccoa Clinic. He received his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and pursued his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Florida
, Gainesville. Survivors include his wife, Geri of Toccoa, Ga.; daughters, Ann Jones of Raleigh, N.C. and Jan Furcron of Jensen Beach; brothers, Walter Whitaker of Raleigh, Keith Whitaker of Shelby, N.C., and Alan Whitaker of Durham, N.C.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Wade and Kathy Harris. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephens County Humane Shelter, P.O. Box 2182, Toccoa, GA 30577. Services: A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 3. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Toccoa.
