DOMINICK ARGIRO Dominick (Donnie) Argiro, 95, born in West Haverstraw, NY passed away in Hobe Sound, FL October 1, 2013.
Dominick was well-known by many of his friends as "Shine" Argo. He served honorably in the U.S. Army 4th Division, known as the Ivy Division. This Division landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. After the war, he opened the Ivy Leaf Liquor Store on Railroad Avenue in West Haverstraw which was named for his 4th Infantry. In 1956, he served as Treasurer of West Haverstraw School District which later became the first North Rockland Central School District. He was also Chairman of the Zoning Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals for Village of West Haverstraw. His passion throughout his life was the game of golf. He continued during his retirement years winning many major tournaments at his home course, Heritage Ridge Golf Course. A member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Hal-Bryan VFW Post 10132 in Hobe Sound, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Elk's Lodge. Dominick was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Helen Wosneski Argiro, his sisters Lena Ponessa, and Mary "Babe" Wajohn. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Calling hours will be 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM, Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes Young & Prill Chapel in Stuart with a Vigil Service at 3:30 PM. Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Monday, October 7, 2013 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard and U. S. Army.
