JAMES VENARD MAGEE

JAMES VENARD MAGEE, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. James (Jim) was born in Mount Vernon, New York and lived for many years in Huntington, Connecticut. Jim served honorably in the US Army and was stationed in France. He was discharged in 1956. For many years he worked as a supervisor for Grand Union Super Markets in the Connecticut/New York regions. Jim was involved in many youth sport's activities and helped to found the Shelton Flag Football League. He came to Port St. Lucie in 1988 and became an advocate for Veterans. Jim was the transportation coordinator for St. Lucie County Veteran's Services supervising the scheduling and transporting of veterans to VA Hospital in West Palm Beach. He enjoyed that very much. Jim earned a reputation as a compassionate man with passengers and veteran's hospital staff alike. He was often seen escorting the old and frail through the maze of hallways at the hospital. He said, "He took care of the people on his watch." He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Medley Magee and his son James Magee and his wife Deena of Sacramento, California, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Bender Magee, of Jensen Beach, Fl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Edwin Magee, his son, Robert G. Magee, his sister, Betty Connelly, brothers, Edwin & Robert Magee. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2013, 11am, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2330 SE. Mariposa Avenue, Port Saint Lucie with the presentation of Military Honors. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Connecticut.
