Joanne Cook Wallis

JOANNE COOK WALLIS Joanne Cook Wallis, 86, passed away on November 12, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born in Hopkins, MO, raised in New Jersey, and settled in Stuart, Fl in 1977. A woman ahead of her time, she was a entrepreneur most of her life. She started two successful businesses in the Caribbean in 1950's and 1960's. She moved to Kissimmee, Fl in 1967, established her first of many gift shops, and was instrumental in the Downtown's early redevelopment. There she met the love of her life, Bill Wallis, and married in 1975. The family moved to Sewall's Point and, in 1979, Joanne opened "The Gate" in newly built Harbour Bay Plaza. She retired in 1995 and led a quiet life until her death. Joanne is survived by Christine (Ronnie) Regal, John Handlen, both of Jensen Beach, Marshall (Dianna) Wallis of Cartersville, GA, Bruce Hulford of Philadelphia, PA, Robin (Craig) Lycan, Patty Pinsky, both of Gainesville, FL, Turner (Diana) Wallis, and Laura (Craig) Wallis, both of Kissimmee, FL., 18 grandchildren and 1 great- grandchild. She was pre- deceased by her wonderful husband, Bill Wallis, in 1992, and son, Michael Wallis in 2000. There will be a Celebration of Life on December 1, 2012 from 4:30-6:30 at the Prawnbroker Courtyard at Harbour Bay Plaza. Joanne wouldn't want it any other way! Paid Obituary
