Larry J. Nicholason

LARRY J. NICHOLASON Larry J. Nicholason, a native of Fort Pierce, FL, born to John J. Nicholason and Marian (Smetana) Nicholason on October 19, 1950, died peacefully November 8, 2012 at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center , Richmond, VA. Larry graduated in 1968 from St. Joseph Catholic High School in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. He began a law enforcement career in 1968, enrolled in the University of Central Florida, earning his BA degree in Criminal Justice, and retired from the Orange County Sheriff's Department as a homicide investigator in 1981. He then transitioned into retail loss prevention and held a number of executive positions before joining NEXCOM, the Navy Exchange Service Command, in 1999 to serve as District Loss Prevention/Safety Manager of the Mid South District, Pensacola, FL. In 2005 he assumed the European District based in Naples, Italy. In 2011 he returned to the states as NEXCOM's Loss Prevention/Safety Manager of the Northeast Distribution Center, Virginia Beach, VA. He was a member of several professional organizations, a Certified Protection Professional through ASIS, and recipient of numerous awards. Larry is survived by his wife, the former Cynthia Wimberly; daughters Lori Lean and Jennifer Graham and sons-in-law William "Bill" Lean and Matt Graham; step daughters Wendy Enfinger, Lindsay Floyd and Leslie Washington; siblings Joan Martellotto, John "Jack" Nicholason and Nikki Saibic; sister-in-law Pamela Nicholason; and nephews Sean Nicholason and David ReDavid and their respective families. Larry's love of life, learning, laughter, cooking, fishing, sports, music and fun lives on in his 10 grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner, Elana, Gavin, Mason, Ash, Wimberly, Trey, Kayden and Mia, who range from 1 -11 years old. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Lucie Catholic Church, 425 S. W. Irving St., Port St. Lucie, FL on December 1, 2012 with a Celebration of Life ceremony immediately following at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 S. E. Floresta Dr., Port St. Lucie, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Hospitality House of Richmond, 612 E. Marshall St., Richmond, VA to lodge patients and their families, or to the Palliative Care Unit, VCU Massey Cancer Center, P. O. Box 980664, Richmond, VA. Paid Obituary
