Lois Jean Claassen

Lois Jean (Nelson) Claassen, 84, died Nov. 14, 2012, at her home. She was born in Exira, Iowa, and lived in Fort Pierce since 1983, coming from Etna Green, Ind. Before retirement, she was a homemaker and she taught in a one room school in Iowa. She was a member of Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce, and the Gideons. Survivors include her sons, James Claassen of Fort Pierce and Keith Claassen of Etna Green; daughter, Dawn Purcell of Round Rock, Texas; sister, Joyce Lutz of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Joe; two brothers; and one sister. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, 15820 Sedgewyck Circle, Davie, FL 33331; or Indian River Presbyterian Church, 2499 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce, FL 34982. Services: Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon, when a service will be conducted, on Nov. 20 at Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce. A reception will follow the service at the church.
