William Whiteside

WILLIAM WHITESIDE
William Whiteside of Village Green, Vero Beach passed away on 11/13/13, his 91st Birthday. Son of the late Frederick Whiteside & Elizabeth Ward Whiteside. He leaves his wife of 67 years Shirley T. Birtwell Whiteside. Bill and Shirley raised their family in Lincoln RI before moving to Vero Beach in 1988. Both of his children; Mary-Louise Boyer and William J. Whiteside live in Cumberland RI. 2 grandchildren; Lt. Col. Alyson Fellner and husband Joseph, Kyle Delaney and wife Devan. 4 great-grandchildren; Devlin Hagan, River, Zander and Audra Delaney. Bill graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1941. He was a charter member of the Rev. I.J. Bouffard #2965 Knights of Columbus, life member and Grand Knight in 1964 and also a member of American Legion Post 39. Bill started playing golf in retirement and sunk his prized hole in one in 1993. He also had an interest in genealogy and over the last 20 years created a 5 volume historical record of the Whiteside family dating back 5 generations. A veteran of WWII, he enlisted in the Naval PGM Pilot Program in 1943, transferred to MTB RON 10 and served in the Pacific on PT170 as QM 2nd Class until 1946. Bill retired from AT&T in May of 1984 as a PBX Installer. He was the brother of the late Frederick Whiteside Jr, Edward Whiteside and Lucille Holden. Bill will be fondly remembered as a man who loved his God, his country and his family. His final resting place will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.
