Edith Stevens Obituary

EDITH SKINNER STEVENS Edith Skinner Stevens, 89, of Vero Beach, died August 25, 2012 at Brightview Assisted Living in Catonsville, Maryland. Mrs. Stevens was born October 6, 1922, in Vero Beach in a small wooden house behind McDonalds on US1. Mrs. Stevens graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1941 and was her class Salutatorian. Edith worked at the Vero Beach City Hall as a bookkeeper, sold Avon, and eventually retired from Gulf Western. She married Reverend John Edward Stevens in 1976 and they served churches in Jacksonville and Crescent City, Florida; and in Los Gatos, California. Mrs. Stevens enjoyed travel, dancing, and entertaining family and friends. In 1996, after Edith's husband passed away she returned to Vero Beach where she resided until 2010. When Edith's health began to fail in 2010, she moved to Catonsville, Maryland to be close to her immediate family. Survivors include her sister- in-law, Aileen Skinner of Catonsville, Maryland; her nieces, Carol Skinner Hepler of Catonsville, Maryland and Janet Skinner Oslin of Longwood, Florida, and many cousins in the Vero Beach area. Edith's parents, James Phillip Skinner and Chassie Howard Skinner, were some of the most notable settlers of Vero Beach and their legacy can be seen in the growth and heritage of the town. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the "Mission Fund" of the First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Visitation will be held from 5- 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Vero Beach with Rev. Derrick West, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach. An online guestbook is available at www.strunk funeralhome.com. Paid Obituary
