JAMES R. ADAMS, 84, of Palm City, FL. passed away peacefully on February 13, 2014 at The Treasure Coast Hospice Residence, in Stuart, FL. Jim was born in Coral Gables, FL. on May 29, 1929 Jim attended Coral Gables Elementary School in 1938 and went on to Ponce de Leon High, and then onto Asheville High School and later attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He graduated in 1951 with his B.A. in Economics and was a Fraternity Brother of Sigma Chi . In 1952 he started his Insurance career with his father's firm, Stembler-Adams & Frazier and was involved with The Greater Miami Insurance Association.was elected president in 1962. In 1972 he was elected to The Florida Association of Insurance Agents, and in 1973 became the Agent's Association Representative to the Board of the National Association, where he served for 9 years. In 1981 the agency became a subsidiary of AETNA Life and Casualty in Hartford, CT. Jim remained as the Chairman until his retirement in 1991. He served as President of The South Florida of Children's Home Society, for 40 years he was a Rotarian in MIami, served on The Board of Vizcayans, The Bath Club, The Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, and Ransome School, in Coconut Grove, FL. While in Vermont he served for a number of years on The Board of The Sonnenberg Property Owner's Association, and The Thompson Senior Center. His hobbies included Fishing, Tennis, Golf, and Traveling. His memberships included The Riviera Country Club, in Coral Gables, and The Golf and Tennis Club, in Woodstock, VT., The Bath Club, on Miami Beach, The University Club and as well The Miami Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 56 years, Jane Adams, his loving daughter, Julia S. Adams, his sister, Patricia McNaughton, a niece, Marlee Matheson, and her brother Robert McNaughton, Jr. and his sister-in-law Betty Lamar . A private Service will be held at a later date in Bard, Vermont.
