CLIFFORD FAIRCHILD LEWIS Clifford "Cliff" Fairchild Lewis, 91, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2012 at the Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart. He was born in Newark, New Jersey and was a resident of Florida for 37 years, spending the last 30 years in Stuart. He was a World War II veteran and served as an Intelligence Scout in the 77th Infantry Division in the South Pacific. Cliff achieved rank of Captain and was awarded countless medals including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a combat infantry badge. Cliff also served in the Army Reserve from 1946- 1958. After his service to his country, Cliff attended the University of Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business. Before retirement, Cliff served as Director of Finance for the School Board of Martin County. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Alice Jo Lewis of Stuart, FL.; Son, Bradford A. Lewis (Nancy Ann) of Poinciana, FL, Daughter Nancy Anne McLaughlin (Rick) of North Canton, OH., Daughter Catherine E. Hill (Larry) of Alliance, OH., Son Clayton E. Whitmire (Donna) of Nashville, TN., Daughter Elizabeth Whitmire of Orlando, FL.; sister Barbara A. Shoudy of Morris Plains, NJ. He was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church of Stuart, FL where he loved singing in the choir. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10132 in Hobe Sound, Florida and the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity. He was a gentle soul who was a devoted husband, supportive father, and trusted friend. Cliff loved reading a good book at the beach, spending time with loved ones, and was masterful at making Mint Juleps for Kentucky Derby parties. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW and the Treasure Coast Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 3 pm. at the Montego Cove Clubhouse in Stuart, Florida.
