EVELYN MEDEIROS BAUER Evelyn Medeiros Bauer of Vero Beach, Florida was born September 14th, 1921 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Alfred and Mary Medeiros, and passed away peacefully April 2nd, 2013. She married Robert Aloysius Bauer in Chicago, Illinois on November 11th, 1950, and is survived by her husband, her children Michael Robert Bauer (Jeanne), Susan O'Toole-Evans (Chuck), Steven David Bauer (Annmarie), and Janet Marie Bissonnette (Gary), as well as her 36 grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends and extended family. Throughout her life, Evelyn was known for her beautiful singing voice and the joy she gave sharing her gift of song with others. From 1946 to 1949, she was the featured vocalist with Gene Marshall's Orchestra, playing among other places at the New Bedford Hotel in New Bedford, and the Lincoln Park Ballroom in Dartmouth, MA. She often shared stories of her youth, and her adventurous spirit was reflected in her tales of road trips with her sister and her service working as the secretary to the Flight Safety Inspector's Office at Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, MA. As Eve raised her children, she traveled the world as the wife of an Air Force officer, living everywhere from Japan to Texas, before finally making her home in Vero Beach in the early 1980s. Once at home in Florida, Evelyn was a proud charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Indian River chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. She also co-founded the Village Green Choraliers, and served as the secretary of the Poinciana Social Club in Village Green for over six years. She was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and passed along both her love of music and of adventure to many generations. Evelyn's family wishes to send thanks for the tender, loving care of all the staff at Grace Rehabilitation Center, the Easter ER day crew at Indian River Medical Center, and her special former nurse Valerie King at The Place. A private memorial will be arranged by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
