James Fleming Obituary

JAMES JOSEPH MICHAEL FLEMING James Joseph Michael Fleming, renowned sportsman, angler and yachtsmen, met his demise on May 14, 2011 while rescuing 17 Cubans in a small rubber raft. Mr. Fleming migrated to Key Largo and most recently to Vero Beach, after living in Chicago, Philadelphia and Miami. God has called the Big Guy home because Heaven desperately needed his sense of humor. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Susan of thirty years(retired super nurse); six kids and spouses( all of whom have never given him a moment's worry); devoted son Michael, Director of Maintenance at Cessna aircraft in Wichita, daughter, Mary Jo, Professor of English Literature in Sacramento; son, James, President and CEO of "Get it while it's Good' in Delray Beach; daughter, Susan, Professional Mourner at funeral services for those without family or friends; step-daughter, Debbie, certified massage therapist and official party planner in Orange Park; step-son, Scott, an Army Major and hero of the Mideast Conflicts; ten perfect grandchildren; many favorite nieces and nephews in Chicago; his only mother-in-law, Shirley Clapp with whom he enjoyed many lively religious and political debates; his ex- wife Alice, also a retired nurse now looking for employment and Ginger the chow chow who will miss licking his plate. A memorial service will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach on Tuesday, June 14th at noon with a celebration of his life to follow at his home in Vero Beach. A second memorial service will be held in the fall at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Chicago. Further information may be obtained by calling a family member. In lieu of flowers (his wife does not have a green thumb), contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. An online guest book may be signed at www. lowtherfuneralhome.com. paid obituary

We were so sorry to hear of Jim's death. We remember many great, happy times in Morton Grove with Jim and Alice. We would appreciate it if the family could let us know when & where the memorial service will take in fall as we would like to attend.

Dear Sue and family, some people are larger than life --- and Jim was one of them. In many ways, he was an original. His humor made him a delight to be with as he enjoyed life to the fullest. I send my deepest condolences, and prayers to be with you at this time. Laurie Gover RN ICU (fellow night shifter).
