John Chaves Obituary


JOHN GREGORY CHAVES John Gregory Chaves, 77, of Manassas, VA and Jupiter, FL, passed away on May 28, 2011. He was born on Nov. 27, 1933 in Manchester, CT, to the late Gregory George Chaves and Mary Catherine (Garibaldi) Chaves. In 1952 he began his apprenticeship with the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division of United Aircraft Corporation. In a career that spanned 41 years, John worked his way up from a mechanic to a production planner and finally to an engineer before retiring in 1992. After retiring John worked as a cashier for ten years at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Jupiter. He attended the Church of the Good Sheppard Episcopal Church in Tequesta, FL, and enjoyed working at the church's thrift shop. He was preceded in death by a wife, Dorothy T. Brezniak; his son, Edward A. Chaves; and his sister, Cynthia A. Fishman. Survivors include his wife, Carol Mae Jones; two children, Robert J. Chaves and wife Patricia, Michael H. Chaves and wife Laurie; six grandchildren, Amanda L. Chaves, Gina R. Chaves, Gregory R. Chaves, Robert J. Chaves, Jr., Edward A. Chaves, Jr. and Jason E. Chaves. Memorial services will be announced at a later date to be held in January at the Church of the Good Sheppard Episcopal Church in Tequesta, FL. His memorial service will share the dedication of the Miracles and Healing window that he so lovingly donated to the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, 10530 Linden Lake Plaza #200, Manassas, VA 20109.
