Linus Gilbert Obituary

Linus Russell Gilbert, 85, of Jupiter died Thursday, Jan. 6 at his residence. He was born in Torrington, Conn., and lived in Palm Beach County since 1956. From 1961 to 1981 he was a partner and vice president of Hutcheon Engineers. He also worked in the Palm Beach County Engineers Office, was town engineer in Jupiter and worked in the Martin County Engineering Office until retirement. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served until 1946. After colleg graduation, he was re-called to active duty until 1953. He stayed in the Navy Reserves and retired in 1972 with the rank of commander in the Civil Engineer Corps. He attended the University of Florida where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was a member of American Society of Civil Engineers. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lorene; three children, Virginia Echelberger and husband Mark, Ed Gilbert and Carolyn and husband Jason; a brother, Bill Gilbert and wife Sue; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22 at Calvary Church, 10100 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter Farms (Jupiter Farms Road and Indiantown Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were by Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home of Jupiter.
