Lula Calhoun Obituary

Lula M. Calhoun, 89, died Jan. 18, 2009, at Rosewood Manor of Vero Beach. She was born in Kibby, Ga., and lived in Vero Beach since 1985, coming from Ormond Beach, where she had moved in 1948 from Savannah, Ga. Prior to retirement, she was a meat wrapper and member of the Allied Meat Workers Union. Survivors include her daughter, Sabara Harrington of Vero Beach; sons, Charles Calhoun of Oxford, Wis., and Marcus Calhoun of Vero Beach; brother, Oscar Roberts of Bunnell; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Calhoun Sr., and sons, Leroy Calhoun Jr. and Roger Calhoun. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach. A guest book may be signed at seawindsfh.com/obit.php.
