Joseph Stephen Calhoun, 72, died April 6, 2013, in Austin. He was born in Vero Beach and lived in Austin. He earned his master's degree in psychology and attended SAGE courses at the University of Texas. He was a pilot in the Air Force and a decorated Vietnam War veteran, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel from the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. During his 21 years of service, he received three Distinguished Flying Crosses, 12 Air Medals and the Air Force Commendation Medal. After retiring from the military, he was employed as a computer specialist for the Texas Department of Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Laurel; sons, Bradley Calhoun and Dr. Wes Calhoun; sister, Catherine Detko; stepdaughters, Anne Jones and Rita McVery; and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Pendleton; and stepdaughter, Janet Gilmore Jarynowski. Services: Services and private burial with full military honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Arrangements are by Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Austin.
