Wallace E. "Gene" Roddenberry Obituary

Wallace E. "Gene" Roddenberry, 92, passed away peacefully June 24, 2013, at his home in Winter Beach with family by his side. He was born June 7, 1921 on the north end of the original John's Island. Son of T.S. and Zunie Roddenberry, Gene grew up in a family of five brothers and five sisters. He has been a lifelong resident of Winter Beach and Indian River County with the exception of time spent in military service. Gene enlisted in the United States Navy in February, 1941. He served six years and was discharged as an aviation chief metal smith (Chief Petty Officer) and then served six years in the Naval Reserve (inactive). Survivors include son, Wallace E. Roddenberry, Jr.; grandsons, Zach Roddenberry and Jonas Roddenberry and great- granddaughter, Eloise Augusta Roddenberry and sister, Myrtle Holt. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 5011 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter Beach, FL with Rev. Todd Holden officiating.
