William Lyons Obituary

William Patrick Lyons, Jr. Bill was born June 29, 1941 in Hamden, CT, the son of Elizabeth Killeen and William Patrick. He passed away on Feb. 11, 2008 at Hospice House, of Vero Beach, after a long illness. Bill graduated from Providence College, and then went in to the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his term, he went to the Wharton Business School and graduated in 1967, with a MBA in corporate finance. Bill then became a CPA with Arthur Anderson and went on to teach finance at Yale. The School of Management opened and Bill became a Professor, teaching Entrepreneurship and Corporate Finance for 17 years. He also taught Business Ethics at Yale Law School. In 1987, Bill decided to do what he taught all those years and bought the Duro Test Corporation in Fairfield, New Jersey and was Chairman of the Board and CEO. After Duro- Test, he went on to acquire Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals in Pittsburgh, PA. Bill sat on the boards of many Fortune 500 companies; one of his favorites was the GAF Corporation. Bill had many loves, but one of his biggest was golf. He was a member for many years of New Haven Country Club, Woodway Country Club in Darien, CT, Johns Island and Red Stick in Vero Beach. He was also a member the Royal and Ancient Golfing Society of St. Andrews, Scotland and a member the United States Seniors Golf Association. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Tina; 4 sons, Bill, John, Michael, Putnam Murdock; his daughter, Wilken Murdock; 5 sisters, Betsy Weber, Dr. May Lyons, Pat Leahy, Lucille Cardenas and Joan McAuley. A memorial service will be held at Yale and a celebration of Bill's life will be held at Red Stick, in Vero Beach, with the dates to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Church, 1901 23rd St., Vero Beach, FL 32960. A guest book may be signed at www. lowtherfuneralhome.com

I was priveleged to spend some time with Bill at lunch at redstick with george carpenter,although i had not seen Bill in over 20 yrs, we looked back at the wonderful times Bill ,
