Robert Spindler Fuiks

ROBERT SPINDLER FUIKS Robert Spindler Fuiks, of Vero Beach, Florida died on November 26, 2009 at the age of 88. Mr. Fuiks was born in Yonkers, NY on October 25, 1921, to the late Lewis John Fuiks and Ilse Spinder Fuiks. He graduated from Barnard School for Boys and Dartmouth College where he was Advertising Manager of the Daily Dartmouth. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served as a Lieutenant in the Pacific on the USS Panamint in the Naval Amphibious Force where he participated in the battle of the Solomon Islands and eight amphibious landings, including the battle for Okinawa a few months before the Japanese surrender. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for his service and was recalled to the Navy during the Korean conflict. After WWII Mr. Fuiks began his career in business at the New York Daily News where he developed his advertising sales skills. After five years at the Daily News, he was recruited by Time, Inc. where he became one its top producing advertising sales executives during his 37 years with Time Magazine. A long time resident of Darien, CT, he and his wife moved to Vero Beach in 1996. He was a member of The University Club in New York City, The Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, CT. The Vero Beach Country Club and Oak Harbor Club. While residing in Darien he was a member of ST. John's Church where he served on the Parish Council. He loved playing golf and was an avid reader with a particular passion for history. Mr.Fuiks is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Thirsa Sands Fuiks, daughter, Susan Arden Cote and her husband Paul, of Bloomfield, NJ, two sons, Kimball Sands Fuiks and his wife Theresa, of Brookfield, WI, and Matthew Spinder Fuiks and his wife Carleen, of Bradenton, FL, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. To celebrate his life, there will be a Memorial Mass at Holy Cross Church, Vero Beach FL on Friday December 4, 2009 at 10:30 am.
