EDWARD ARTHUR GREDE Edward A. (Ned) Grede was born October 1, 1920 in Milwaukee, and died January 23, 2014 in Hobe Sound, Florida. Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane (nee Samp). Survived by sons Richard (Alyce) of Hobe Sound, FL; Donald (Terri) of Boulder, CO; Robert (Karen) of Milwaukee; and daughter Elizabeth (Dan) Bowling of Atlanta. Graduated Kemper Military School in 1940; Attended the University of Wisconsin; Member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity; Doctorate of Humane Letters from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Service Manager at Briggs & Stratton for many years where he wrote the best-selling book of 1956 (with each copy, buyers received a free lawn mower!). Served as CEO and co-owner with his brother, the late Tom Grede, of Keystone Pipe & Supply, 1956 until his retirement in 1985. Served as a Director of Grede Foundries, Milwaukee Electric Tool, First Wisconsin National Bank, Spence Corporation, American Apparel, SoftPedal and others. Ned Grede firmly believed in service above self and offered his time to Rotary International, YMCA, Salvation Army, Zoological Society, Milwaukee Enforcers, Siebert Foundation, and Lutheran Social Services. He was also one of the founders of the Village of Elm Grove and served as its first Village Trustee. He will be missed by his many friends at Chenequa Country Club, Lost Lake Golf Club, and Willoughby Country Club as well as neighbors, friends and visitors to his home on Beaver Lake. A brief service for Mr. Grede was held in Hobe Sound on Sunday, January 26th. The Memorial Service will be held in Wisconsin over the weekend of February 2nd with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.
