JOHN MORGAN HUDSON passed away on April 16, 2014. The cause was cancer. Morgan was born on September 2nd, 1944 and grew up in Essex Fells, NJ and Harwich Port, MA. His parents were Mary Ellen and James Hudson and his siblings are James and Judith. Morgan attended the Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University, where he excelled in soccer and ice hockey. Following college, he served in the Air Force Reserves. Morgan and his brother were partners at Grammer Dempsey & Hudson Inc., a leading steel distributor in the eastern United States, for 45 years. Morgan was on the board of the Steel Service Center Institute in New York and served as president for two years. At an early age, Morgan learned to sail at Cape Cod where he fostered a love for the sea and raced competitively. He sailed throughout his life, ocean racing with friends from the New York Yacht Club and serving as navigator on Newport-Bermuda, Southern Circuit, Admiral's Cup and other races. He also enjoyed boating and spending time with family in the Abaco Cays, Bahamas. His other sporting passions were golf and paddle tennis. Morgan is survived by his first mate, Kitty Mountain and his two loving daughters, Allison Palmer Hudson (Stockamore) and Elizabeth Shelby Hudson (Hines). He will be remembered by all who knew him for his loyalty, friendship and kindness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 3rd at Christ Church, Harwich Port, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.
