MARIA CATHERINE BLAIR Maria Catherine Blair (nee Bell), 95, passed away May 15, 2014 at Consulate Health Care of Vero Beach, following an eleven year long struggle with kidney failure requiring dialysis. Born in Paterson, New Jersey to Arthur Patrick Bell and Catherine Savage Bell on May 2, 1919, she attended St. George's Elementary School and graduated from St. John's High School in Paterson in 1936. She earned a two year business degree at Miller Business College before working at Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical; then using her bookkeeping skills, she managed the books at Kraft Textiles. She married George A. Blair on July 4, 1942 and together they relocated the family first in Riviera Beach and then in Stuart, Florida. During these years she worked in the Planning Department of Riviera Beach and finished her working career at the First National Bank in Stuart. Maria volunteered as a Pink Lady at Martin Memorial Hospital and successfully managed the gift store at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Okeechobee. She also served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach, Florida. Maria was very active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling and she loved her family. Maria was preceded in death by her loving spouse, George, in 1979, after thirty-six years of marriage; her daughter, Donna Watson; her parents; her brother, Arthur Joseph Bell; her niece, Patricia Harrington; and her cousin, Kathleen Carofine. Maria is lovingly remembered by her children, Cathleen Blair of Okeechobee and Kevin Blair (Cynthia). She is survived by her son-in-law, David Watson of Homosassa; grandchildren, Keri Pell (Robert) of Tallahassee, Matthew Watson (Nicole), Sean Blair of Palm City and Scott Blair (Danielle) of Port St. Lucie; sister, Margaret Harrington of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed by all that were touched by her. Visitation will be 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 701 SW 6th ST, Okeechobee Florida 34974 on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. with Father Hugh Duffy, Father Yves Francois and Father Sean Mulcahy officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy RD, Palm City, Florida 34990. A reception will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
