JAMES D. WYNN James "Jimmy" D. Wynn, 96, passed away Monday June 9, 2014 at his residence in Port St.
Lucie, FL. Jimmy was born in Vidalia, GA, one of 8 children and has been a resident of Port St. Lucie for the past 18 years coming from Fort Pierce where he had been a resident since the 1950's. He proudly served our country as a Sgt. in the US Army under the direction of General Patton during World War II. Prior to retirement, Jimmy was a very successful businessman with Goodyear, Sinclair Oil and British Petroleum as well as partner-owner of the Schlitz beer distributorship covering the Treasure Coast area in Florida. His lifelong love for baseball began in the 1930's where he played 2nd base for the Atlanta Crackers, Atlanta's home team at the time, also known as the "Yankees of the Minors". A southern gentleman in every way, he enjoyed extensive world travel with his true love and wife of 54 years, Veronica H. Wynn who preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church with a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, Port St. Lucie, FL. Survivors include son James "Doyle" Wynn, Jr, of HI; daughter, Katherine A. Gallivan of NY; sister, Mary Owen and niece, Blanche Owen, both of Vero Beach, FL as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM Thursday June 26, 2014 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie and the interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, FL.
