CHARLES JAMES
MCGOVERN Charles James McGovern, age 83, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Lawnwood Regional Trauma Center, Fort Pierce, FL as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born in West New York, NJ and previously resided in HoHoKus and Allendale before becoming a permanent resident of Stuart, FL where he and his wife, Mary Ann, spent 20 happy and wonderful years. Prior to Charles' retirement, he was an owner of G.T. McGovern Trucking & Warehouse Co., Inc. in Bayonne, NJ. Charles is a US Marine veteran having served during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He was a former member of St. Gabriel's RC Church in Saddle River. He was a member of the New York Athletic Club, Hackensack Golf Club and the Willoughby Golf Club, Stuart, FL. He enjoyed his gin games in the 19th hole and was rewarded on the golf course with six holes in one! Charles is survived by his adoring wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (nee Gaffney), his loving children; Kim (Ken) Kleespie, Dan (Debbie) McGovern, Kathy (Eric) Dallendorfer, Kerry (Ray) Bascio, Kevin (Lori) McGovern, and Megan (Russ) Lennon. Also surviving are 14 cherished grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his brother and sisters, George McGovern, May Best and Betty Black. Charles was predeceased by a brother, Howard McGovern. You will always be our hero, Dad. We love you! Burial services will be private. A Celebration Mass, honoring Charles' life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00AM at St. Gabriel's RC Church, 88 East Saddle River Road, Saddle River, NJ.
