Marietta "Polly" Huitt

MARIETTA "POLLY" HUITT Marietta "Polly" Huitt, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007. Polly was born September 1, 1931, to Hazel and Dewey Huitt in Allegan, Michigan. She graduated from Allegan High School, attended MacMurray College for Women in Illinois, and graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan with both her B.S. and M.A. Polly taught at Nazareth College in Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo Public Schools for 23 years. Polly and her partner of 45 years, June Peppas, began the PJ Printing company in Allegan, Michigan in 1975. After selling the business and retiring, Polly and June moved to Jensen Beach, Florida in 1990. Later, they moved to Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. Throughout her life, Polly enjoyed a very active lifestyle indoor and outdoors, and played many sports. Polly loved animals and always had a pet near and dear to her heart. Earlier in her career, she was a sports car driver and belonged to the Kalamazoo Sports Car Club. Polly also loved to fly. She earned her pilot's license, including instrument, instructor and commercial ratings. Polly taught flying in Michigan for ten years. Polly belonged to the 99's (International Women's Pilot Association). One of her finest accomplishments was winning the Michigan SMALL Air Race in 1967. Polly was predeceased by her mother and father; her sister, Bertha Elinger; her brothers, Howard "Sonny" Huitt and Dewey Huitt. She is survived by her partner, June; her sister, Sally Bilotta; and twelve nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Polly's life will be held at Young & Prill Funeral Home, 6801 SE Federal Hwy., Stuart, Florida, on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Treasure Coast Hospices, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997.
